How to Make Glitter Slime

March 10, 2014 By: mybigfathappylife

How to Make Glitter Slime | mybigfathappylife.com

When I was looking through Pinterest for a slime recipe I came across this one from The 36th Avenue, however I did not have Elmer’s glitter glue on hand.  So, I modified the recipe to work with my supplies.

Glitter Slime
1 bottle of clear Elmer’s Glue
1 Tablespoon of water
Food Colorin
Glitter (we used both black and white/clear)
1 cup of warm water
1 teaspoon Borax

Mix the 1 Tablespoon of water and glue together.  Add food coloring (making the color darker than what you want the finished product to be) and glitter.  I always let S decide what color she wants to make and add the food coloring to the mixture.  In addition, she added the glitter literally dumping the bottle oops! but it ended up looking really pretty.  Next, dissolve the Borax into 1 cup of warm water.

Mix the Borax mixture into the glue mixture.  We used our hands (the mixture will be warm, so please test with your hands prior to letting your child mix) and you can almost immediately feel the slime form.  Note: Do not leave the slime in the water too long or it will get tough.

You can play with slime in many different ways.  One really neat thing about slime is it flattens out or takes the shape of what you place it in.  So S and I decided to pull out our star ice cube tray and make blue glittery stars.

As we were making our stars S asked for shaving cream clouds, so we went outside and added shaving cream to her water/sand table.  When the slime stars were covered in the shaving cream they became slippery.  We also added in the decorative flat gems.  S coated everything in shaving cream, then washed it off, stacked the stars up and started over.  Lots of fun!

I love playing outside because when S is finished I take the garden hose and rinse off everything.  I put the slime into a ziplock container for storage.Imaginative Play: How to Make Glitter Slime | mybigfathappylife.com

What is your favorite way to play with slime?

*Please watch your child while playing with this recipe and use caution if your child puts items in their mouth as Borax cannot be ingested.
