DIY Raised Dog Feeder - How to make raised dog food bowls with industrial style legs.

My dog, Duke, is such an important part of the family!  He is a 2-year-old sealed brindle boxer who is always ready for a long walk, to play fetch, or his favorite, to run loose exploring on my parents 10-acres of land.  With all that energy that he is exerting I want to make sure that he has the nutrition and protein he needs to lead his active life.

Duke brings so much joy and happiness to us that he deserves proper nutrition in return.  That is why we have chosen to feed him Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® PEAK Wetlands Recipe™ with Chicken, Duck & Pheasant.  Nutrish PEAK is a protein-rich food for dogs that contains 30% high-quality protein and 0% grains, glutens or fillers.  It contains nutrient-dense meats and the #1 ingredient is real U.S. farm-raised chicken.

As a tasty topper, we occasionally top Duke’s dry food with Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Peak™ Open Range Recipe™ with Chicken & Beef in Hearty Gravy.  Made with high-quality ingredients that you can see the real shredded chicken breast in the wet food.  Every Nutrish PEAK wet food recipe is made with real chicken, combined with protein-rich duck, beef or lamb for a flavor your dog will love.

If you are looking to switch your dog, be sure to gradually introduce the food by incorporating it into your current dog food over the course of 7-10 days.  Slowly replace your dog’s current food with Nutrish PEAK until it’s completely switched over.

DIY Raised Dog Feeder

A raised dog feeder provides ease of access to food and water which places less strain on the dog’s neck, hips, shoulders and joints, and promotes better posture.  Making a raised feeder for your dog is easy!

The measurements for your raised feeder will vary depending on the height of your dog and the size of your food and water bowl.  A general rule to follow for the height of your feeder is to measure your dog from floor to top of their shoulder and subtract 6 inches.

We used a 2×12 cut to 23 inches long (your length will vary based on the size of your dog’s bowls).  Turn your dog bowls upside down on top of the board where you want them and draw around the lip.

With your 1-inch hole cutter drill bit, cut a hole in the center of each bowl space.  Then with your jigsaw, start at the hole you drilled and begin to cut out the circle outline of your bowl. Stay approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch inside of your line, as you want the lip of your bowl to rest on the wood. If you cut on your pencil line, your bowl will fall through the hole.

Next, sand your board, prime, paint, and varnish your board or stain and water-based polyurethane.

Using galvinized pipes and floor flanges will give your raised feeder an industrial element.  At my local hardware store in the plumbing department are galvinized pipes in black or silver.  The pipes come in a variety lengths and diameters, so you will be able to find the height that you will need.  I used four 1/2×12 inch pipes and eight floor flanges.

Turn your board upside down and place four floor flanges where you would like them and then screw them into your board.  Then thread on your pipe and additional floor flange per leg.

Flip your feeder over, insert the bowls and let your dog enjoy!
