Outdoor Play: Washing Station

May 5, 2014 By: mybigfathappylife

Outdoor Play: Washing Station #playmatters | mybigfathappylife.com

After a winter of sitting outside, S’s sand/water table and toys were looking very dirty!  Not to mention the sand had been rained on a couple times and was due to be switched out.  So, I asked S if she wanted to help me wash the toys and of course she said yes.

I emptied the sand/water table and S added the soap and water to it.  She started out by cleaning the table.

Then we added in the toys.  S scrubbed each toy and covered them in bubbles before handing them to me to rinse and lay out in the sun to dry.

We turned on the Disney channel on Pandora and listened to music while we cleaned.

Seriously, S had so much fun!

More than 2 hours later all her outside toys were clean.

How do you wash your children’s toys?

Great minds think alike, had my little boy at home last week with chicken pox and we did exactly the same, and it was so much fun!

Madaline, are you looking for a water table? Ours is Step 2 similar to this one on Amazon http://amzn.to/1shsZN0 We have had ours for three years now and it is still holding up well! One thing I have seen done is to put down a protective barrier like a plastic table cloth and then put your messy play on top so that if water is splashed out it doesn’t get on your flooring. I have also used low plastic container (like ones that fit under the bed) for messy play that could be played in on the floor or on a table. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions.

This is such a cute idea. I may have to try it with the little guy I nanny for. It’s getting hot here so any water play is always fun for us both.

Love how you can make cleaning into a game! Looks like S had great fun. We don’t have a water table for our garden, are they a worthwhile investment?

Great idea! Why have I never thought of making it into a “fun” activity. I’m bringing out the plastic pool and loading it up with dirty toys and having a toy pool party 🙂

That’s actually a really good idea. I rarely clean outside toys, but if I did it like this I’m sure my daughter would have no problem joining in and “helping”. Too cute!
