Why You Should Run in The Color Run #Happiest5K #WeShine

Why You Should Run in The Color Run and Tips for Having a Wonderful Time #happiest5k #weshine #tcr #thecolorrun | mybigfathappylife.com

We walked The Color Run in Baton Rouge, Louisiana a couple weeks ago.  It was our first time doing a 5k and we had a blast!  The Color Run is perfect for the whole family.  While you will find some runners on the course the majority of the participants are actually walkers.

Leading up to The Color Run event, S could not wait!  She kept calling it her fun run.  I made an easy purple tulle tutu for S and am so glad I did.  She looked adorable the day of the run.

Why You Should Run in The Color Run and Tips for Having a Wonderful Time #happiest5k #weshine #tcr #thecolorrun | mybigfathappylife.com

1. It’s Fun!

When they say it’s the happiest 5k they mean it!  All the race officials were happy and upbeat.  They were encouraging along the route and gave out high fives.  When S wanted more color on her the race officials were more than happy to accommodate her.

2. Family Friendly

The Color Run is a completely family friendly event.  There are no age restrictions on who can participate and they even welcome strollers onto the course.  The run is not timed and you will find way more participants walking than running.

3. Promotes Family Time

This is a wonderful event to spend time with your family.  We got to talk to each other and spend time together prior to the start and during the run.  It is an experience that we can look back on and say remember that time we participated in The Color Run.

4. Promotes Physical Activity

Walking is one of the best ways to stay active and one that everyone can participate in.  Walking the 3 miles with S went by extremely fast!  We were looking forward to each color station and that helped push us through.  The color stations also helped encourage S to walk.  Plus we had to race at the end to see who crossed the finish line first (S did of course).

5. Children Ages 5 and Under Run for Free

I love events where I do not have to pay for S!  It helps families with young children be able to participate when they may have previously passed.  Not having to pay for S encouraged me to sign up that way I know she may enjoy a future run/walk.

Tips:

  • Pick up your packet the day before the run, so that you do not have to worry about it the morning of.  You can find the location of the packet pick up in the runner guide that will be emailed to you about 10 days before your event.
  • The day of the race you can go directly to the start line; this will help you be in the first group of runners.
  • Walkers stay to the right, runners stay to the left.  This is for everyone’s safety because runners having to zig zag through the walkers all over the course is never good.
  • Be prepared for the color!  The color stations are one big cloud of color due to all the officials dousing the runners.  While the color is non-tonic holding your breathe or use a handkerchief to cover your nose and mouth is a good idea especially for kids.  The race officials try to stick to your mid-section when getting you but accidents can happen.
  • I was really worried that the color would stain everything but I had no problems getting the color out.  I did wash our clothes right away.
  • I highly recommend a water proof case for your phone.  We used this one and it worked great!  We were able to take photos during the run without worrying about ruining our phone.  Plus the photos turned out great (all photos in this post were taken with my iPhone through the case).

The color run was supposed to come here last summer but it was canceled for some reason. I was so bummed. I am going to have to check the schedule and see when it will be around here again! It looks like y’all had a great time!

It was so much fun! I hope they come back to your city again. Our tour was the Shine one which means they had a “glitter” station at the finish line to run through!

We covered the car seats with sheets 🙂 but they also had a huge fan to help blow the powder off. Glad you had as much fun as us!

We covered our seats in the car with sheets, but The Color Run also had a huge fan to blow most of the powder off your clothes 🙂
