New Chairs with Spray Paint

November 6, 2014 By: mybigfathappylife

Spray Painting Chairs #DIY #furniture #spraypaint #oldlikenew | mybigfathappylife.com

I had two chairs that I’ve had for years.  Both of them had paint that was rubbed off of them and they had seen better days.  Instead of buying new dining room chairs I decided to try spray paint these.

I love how they turned out; that they are different than my other dining room chairs.  By spray painting my existing chairs it allowed me to be able to elongate the life of the chairs and get “new” chairs without the cost.  You do the same thing to cheap chairs that you might find at a thrift store or garage sale or on the side of the road 😉

Directions

You will want to prepare the chairs with a light sanding.  I always buy spray paint that has primer already in it so I don’t have to do another step.  Next place the chairs on a cardboard box or newspaper or something that will catch the over spray.

When I spray paint, I always start off the edge of the furniture and spray over it and then finish off the other side.  I spray light coats and wait for the paint to dry between.  That way you won’t end up with runs.  Usually, I do between three and five coats of paint making sure that the furniture is completely covered including the back of the leg and the underside of the back.

They have held up well over the last year since they were painted.  To gauge how much spray paint you will need it took one full can per chair.

Just for the cost of the can of spray paint I have a brand new chair!

I love these! I really, really want to paint my dining room table and chairs, but I’m a little nervous about it. Did you put any kind of sealer on top of the paint?

    • mybigfathappylife says

      November 9, 2014 at 7:59 am

I did not, and I do have a couple scraps from bedazzled jeans over the last year. So if you do not want that to happen I suggest a sealer.

Wow Paris these came out really great. Definitely an easy way to repurpose and reuse something old in a new way.
