Picnic Lunches

June 5, 2014 By: mybigfathappylife

Why We Love Picnic Lunches | mybigfathappylife.com

There is something almost magical about having a picnic to a child.  Some of my best childhood memories are of having picnics when we would take day trips exploring Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods, or picnics on the back deck.

S will ask me every couple of weeks if we can have a picnic.  She enjoys spreading a blanket out in the backyard to eat her lunch on.  Sometimes we take sandwiches out on paper plates and call it a picnic.  Other times I’ll fix different foods and place them in my divided tier container and take it out to enjoy.

In Baton Rouge during certain times of the year, the Arts Council puts on Sunday in the Park which is a series of free outdoor concerts.  We have frequently taken a picnic lunch down and enjoyed the live music.  Your town may offer something similar.  We also had a picnic lunch when we hiked at Port Hudson State Historic Site.

Even on our trip to Arizona we had a couple picnic lunches when we were at state parks.

There are so many possibilities when it comes to having a picnic; it could be simple or complex, it could be in your backyard or at a park.  Or even inside!

I encourage you to have a picnic today!

My sister lives in Colorado Springs, so we’ve visited Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods lots of times. Picnics are so much fun, especially for children.

I haven’t gone on a picnic in forever! I will definitely have to change that this summer, I miss the simplicity and charm of sitting outside and eating with friends =)
