Our house is one of only a handful on our street that recycles. I am not sure why more do not because the parish makes it really easy. They drop off a can almost as big as a garbage can and no separation of material type is needed.
Did you know that many items in your bathroom are recyclable? It’s so easy to recycle items found in your kitchen, especially when you have a designated spot to place them in. However, I am guilty of throwing away personal care products! Thanks to the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. Care to Recycle® program, I have placed a can in my bathrooms to collect personal care products that can be recycled. Everything from shampoo and mouthwash bottles to soap and bandage boxes can be recycled. To better understand which bathroom products can and cannot be recycled, click here. Be sure to remove pumps and rinse out the containers before recycling.
Recycling no longer needs to be viewed as just another household chore; showing your kids how to recycle can be one of life’s little teachable moments that can have a lasting impact.
We use Johnson & Johnson products on my daughter including their No More Tangles line, which is a miracle worker in her hair! Another way to recycle personal care items is to reuse and repurpose them.
With spring under way, it was time to start our garden! I took Johnson & Johnson shampoo and body wash containers and cut the top half of them off using a x-acto knife (*be very careful and do not allow children to help with this part).
Add soil to your new seed starter pot and plant seeds. My daughter wanted to plant peas because we had peas a couple years ago and she loved picking the pods. Place your pot in a sunny windowsill and watch as the seeds start to sprout. Once your plants are a couple inches high and have grown their first set of leaves, you can transplant to your garden.
To further recycle your seed starter pot, remove the soil and spray paint it. Then add your soil back and plant succulents or cacti. Place your new succulents in a window sill or on the patio table.

Love the idea of having a designated can to put recycling in the bathroom. We are great with recycling things downstairs since we have a split garbage can but tend to be a bit lazy upstairs and throwing away in regular trash instead of bringing down to recycle.
