When the weather starts getting cold it always means it’s time for hot chocolate! We’ve all made hot chocolate from a mix, and maybe some of us have made hot chocolate from scratch, but have you ever made hot chocolate bombs?

These hot chocolate bombs are so easy to make that you probably have all the ingredients already in your pantry. They are a fun, special treat for loved ones to enjoy this winter. These hot chocolate bombs would also be so fun to add to a holiday hot chocolate bar. We always have a hot chocolate bar on Christmas morning. If you are looking for a unique gift idea, a couple of hot chocolate bombs with a cute mug would make a perfect DIY holiday gift.

Hot Chocolate Bombs

Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave them for 30 seconds. Then stir the chocolate chips, before returning them to the microwave for another 30 seconds. Then stir again, the chocolate chips should be melted, if not repeat.

Make sure that your silicon mold is clean and completely dry. Next using a baking paintbrush or the back of a spoon, thinly coat the silicone molds with the melted chocolate. Then place the molds in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes.

Check the mold for any spots that might need to be touched up.

Remove the chocolate half spheres from the silicone molds. Next, fill half of the chocolate spheres (6) with 1.5 to 2 Tablespoons of the hot chocolate mix (about 3/4 of the way full). Then add a few mini marshmallows on top of the hot chocolate mix.

Heat a frying pan on the stove on low heat. When it’s warm, take the 6 empty chocolate spheres one at a time and rub the edge on the frying pan until the chocolate starts to melt. Then quickly place the empty half sphere on top of one filled with the hot chocolate mix to make a complete sphere. Repeat until you have closed all of your hot chocolate bombs.

Drizzle additional melted chocolate over the top of the hot chocolate bombs and add sprinkles if you wish.

When it is time to enjoy the hot chocolate bombs, add one to the bottom of a mug and pour steaming (but not boiling) milk over the top of the hot chocolate bomb. The bomb will break/melt releasing the hot chocolate mix and marshmallows. Stir and enjoy.
