Planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland or Disney Cruise?  You can use your Silhouette or Cricut to make custom Disney shirts for your whole family!

We took a family trip to Disneyland last week and one of my favorite parts of a trip is the planning process.  For this trip, I decided to make custom Disney shirts for my daughter and me to wear to the parks.

DIY Disney Shirt

There are a couple options for your own custom shirts, you could design your own or you can purchase or cut files.  For our shirts, we decided to use a couple of quotes from two movies: Tangled and Toy Story.  Since we were going to use text, I used fonts that matched the feel I wanted to evoke with “best day EVER” and “you’ve got a FRIEND in me”.  These shirts were such conversation starters with both cast members and characters!

Supplies to Make Your Own DIY Disney Shirts

  • Silhouette or Cricut digital craft cutting machine
  • Blank shirts (I picked a couple inexpensive ones up during a sale at Target)
  • Heat transfer vinyl (HTV)
  • Iron

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World, Disneyland or Disney Cruise?  You can use your Silhouette or Cricut to make custom Disney shirts for your whole family!

  1. Design your shirt or layout your text in Silhouette Studio or Cricut Design Space
  2. Cut the design.
    1. Make sure you mirror your image/text
    2. Lay the HTV shiny side down on your cutting mat.
    3. Set cut settings to Heat Transfer/Iron On setting with a cutting mat.
    4. Load cutting mat.
    5. Send to machine
    6. Unload
  3. Weed the design by removing excess vinyl that you do not want to iron on, leaving only what you want to iron to your shirt on the backing.
  4. Flip the design over shiny side up, position on your shirt, and cover with a piece of parchment paper or light cotton cloth.
  5. Use a hot iron on a hard surface or a heat press to press the design according to the manufacturer instructions.  I did a hot iron, no steam for about 30 seconds pressing very firmly.
  6. Check that the design is adhered then peel the backing up slowly.

I hope you try making your own DIY Disney shirt for an upcoming trip or just for a magical day!
