What to do and see if you only have one day in Yosemite National Park in California.

You will not be able to see everything that Yosemite National Park has to offer in only one day, however, you will be able to see the most iconic spots within Yosemite Valley: Half Dome, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, and the Merced River. If you have more time to spend in Yosemite, I would highly recommend it as there are some amazing hikes.

When Should You Visit

The day that you choose to visit does matter because Yosemite National Park is extremely busy especially during the summer and other school holidays. The best day to visit Yosemite is going to be during the week when school is in session. Generally from late spring through early fall most roads, trails, and attractions are accessible and the weather is ideal for exploring. May and June are especially beautiful, as Yosemite’s waterfalls are at their most impressive thanks to the melting snow. September and early October offer cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.

One Day Itinerary

Start your day by arriving early in the morning. This will allow you to enter the park with minimal wait time and to get the most out of your day.

I recommend your first stop of the day to be at Tunnel View for a spectacular first look at Yosemite Valley including El Capitan and Half Dome.

Near Tunnel View, stop to see Bridal Veil Falls. You can also take the short hike to see the falls up close.

Start driving the Valley Loop. I highly recommend stopping at Cook’s Meadow which offers fantastic views of Yosemite Falls. In addition, Sentinel Bridge offers views of Half Dome looming over Merced River.
