Towing a Camper with a Jeep

February 26, 2018 By: mybigfathappylife

Disclosure: I am not a car expert this post is only my personal opinion and experience.  You may want to consult with a car expert or your dealership.

Towing a Camper with a Jeep | mybigfathappylife.com

Something that I receive a lot of questions on is what it is like towing our camper with our Jeep Grand Cherokee.  We specifically purchased our Jeep with the intention of towing a camper.  We love camping and have made so many wonderful memories!  You can see some of the reasons why we love camping here.  If you are looking at purchasing a camper, you can see everything that you will need before your first camping trip here.

10 Reasons You Should Go RVing #FindYourAWAY #GoRVing #ad | mybigfathappylife.com

Stats

Our Jeep Grand Cherokee has a 5.7 liter Hemi V8 with tow package (7,400 towing capacity).  Our camper weights ~5700 dry.  It is 26 ft long (31.5 ft with hitch).   Our camper has a lower profile so I feel that it is a better fit with our Jeep.  We use a 2 point anti-sway hitch, so we barely feel the camper behind us except when it is extremely windy.

Maintenance on Your Camper or RV

Experience

We have had our Jeep/camper combination for almost 3 years.  We have taken our camper on weekend trips, a 2,400 miles round trip vacation to Wisconsin from Louisiana, and a 3,500 miles round trip adventure to Wyoming.  We even towed over two mountain passes on our way out to Yellowstone National Park.  We have had no problems with our Jeep towing our camper.

To help reduce the weight of the camper, we never travel with our tanks full (clean or gray/black water).

We love going camping and purchasing our camper was one of the best decisions we have ever made.
