New Orleans For Kids: City Park

April 10, 2015 By: mybigfathappylife

New Orleans for Kids: City Park; Louisiana Family Travel | mybigfathappylife.com
When you think about a park you think about a playground and green space but City Park in New Orleans is so much more.  There are play areas, an amusement park, an art museum, outdoor sculpture garden, botanical gardens, mini golf, boat rentals, biking/jogging/walking trails, golf course, horse riding lessons and more.

New Orleans City Park is more than 150 years old and  is one of the oldest and most beautiful urban parks in the country.  The park is approximately 1,300 acres with the largest grove of mature live oaks in the world.  The oldest oak trees in the park  are 600-800 years old.

City park offers way more than a days worth of entertainment, so you will need to decide what you want to see and do.  On our last trip to City Park, we visited Storyland and Carousel Gardens Amusement Park.

Storyland

Storyland play area consists of storybook sculptures that your child can play on from classic fairy tales including Captain Hook’s Ship, the 3 Little Pig Houses, Cinderella’s Pumpkin Coach and more.

The play area is perfect for bringing fairy tales to life and sparking your child’s imagination.  There are also two slides for even more fun.

Carousel Gardens Amusement Park

The Carousel Gardens Amusement Park is named after the antique wooden carousel.  I love that the carousel is located inside this beautiful building with stain glass.  The carousel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The amusement park includes 16 rides including the Ladybug Roller Coaster, ferris wheel, bumper cars, a train and more.  Make sure to check out of the view of downtown New Orleans including the Superdome from the top of the ferris wheel.

We found that all the rides were very generous in the amount of time you were on the ride, especially the roller coaster that went around three times!

Cost

The cost of $4 per person (over 36″ tall) includes admission to the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, Botanical Garden and Storyland.  The cost of the amusement park rides is $18 for a wristband with unlimited rides or $4 per ride.

I cannot wait to visit City Park again to explore more of what it has to offer!

How fun! I wish Atlanta had something similar. When I was living in California they had parks like these.

This looks like a great day out and reasonably priced as well. So nice that it’s got heritage status and you’re supporting that by going. I’m sure my son would love it there.

I remember going to City Park as a kid during Celebration in the Oaks, the annual holiday event, and always loving Storyland but especially the ladybug roller coaster! They’ve added so many great new additions in the last few years like the mini golf course and Morning Call, where you can get cafe au lait and beignets. City Park is definitely one of my favorite spots in town!

City Park is absolutely beautiful – I can see why it’s one of your favorites. The ladybug roller coaster was awesome – definitely a family favorite! I have been wanting to attend Celebration in the Oaks for years now. Maybe this year I can get it on our schedule! City Park is absolutely beautiful
