Whether you are hosting a movie night, a family/friends get-together, or Sunday football, these soft and delicious homemade pretzels with a creamy beer cheese dipping sauce are perfect for a crowd. Or just for you, I won’t tell.

These homemade pretzels are one of my family’s favorite! I have been told many times when hosting a party that homemade pretzels with dipping sauce must be on the menu! And this beer cheese dipping sauce I could eat with a spoon directly from the bowl!

Homemade Pretzels with Beer Cheese Dipping Sauce

These pretzels do have several steps, however, they are very easy to make.  Nothing beats the beer cheese dipping sauce!

In a stand mixer, combine using a paddle attachment warm water, sugar, salt, and yeast on low for 15 seconds. Switch the attachment for a dough hook. Add flour and butter, mix on low until combined, and then on medium until the dough is smooth and pulls away from the sides of the bowl (about 5 minutes).

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm spot for 55 minutes. The dough should have doubled in size. Turn the dough out onto an oiled surface and divide the dough into eight pieces. Roll the dough into ropes and then form into a traditional pretzel shape. Keep the dough covered with a lightly damp cloth to prevent the dough from drying out.

Boil 10 cups of water with baking soda. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Using a spatula lower the pretzels into the boiling water and boil for 30 seconds. Remove pretzels, drain well and place them on the baking sheets. Spray with cooking spray and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake.

To make the beer cheese dipping sauce, melt in a pan over medium/low heat butter. Whisk in flour. Cook for a minute before whisking in the beer. When the sauce begins to thicken add the cheese. Stir. Remove from heat once the cheese has melted. Enjoy!
