Disney Lookout Cay (pronounced Key) at Lighthouse Point is Disney’s tropical retreat nestled on the southernmost tip of Eleuthera, The Bahamas. The only way to visit Lookout Cay is with a Disney Cruise that has a stop on the island. The island is beautiful and the perfect place to relax.
Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point pays tribute to the beauty of nature. You can see the influence in the curvy shapes of the architecture and vibrant colors that are inspired by the plants and shells found on the island.
While it is a long walk across the gangway to get to the tram that takes you to the beach, once you are at the beach everything you need including food, drinks, shopping, activities, etc. are all very close together. I had heard some not great reviews of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, so I wasn’t expecting much, but we really enjoyed the area and our day. Below is some information to keep in mind when traveling to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
1. Chairs and Umbrellas are Free on the Beach
There are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas available for free to use on the beach. It is so nice not to have to worry about bringing mats or renting anything.
2. Food Served on the Island
For lunch, soda, and snacks check out True-True BBQ. At True-True BBQ you will find free all you can eat lunch with soda and ice cream stations. We had typical BBQ fair such as hamburgers, ribs, fish, and chicken with plenty of salads, fruits and desserts. There is plenty of covered seating nearby.
3. Towels Available
Make sure to grab towels as you exit the tram on your way to the beach.
4. Merchandise Only Available on Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point
There is some merchandise that is only available on Disney Lookout Cay. So make sure to purchase anything that you want before you re-board the ship. Disney has also partnered with Bahamian artists which also have items for sale in the shops.
5. Excursions and Land Activities
Disney Lookout Cay has many excursions for you and your family to enjoy everything from conservation tour to a family pirate adventure to kayaking to bike rentals to snorkeling. There is a gaming pavilion, a volleyball court, and an interactive water play area if you need something to keep you busy other than the beach.
6. Character Meet and Greets
The characters come ashore and offer meet and greets in exclusive, colorful outfits. The outfits are inspired by a local Bahamian winter festival called Junkanoo. If you would like to meet the characters be sure to check the time schedule.
7. Water Temperature Can Be Cool
We visited the island in late January and the water temperature was cool. Be prepared that just because its The Bahamas does not guarantee it will be hot.
8. Goombay Cultural Center
Located at the heart of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point exists a colorful arts and cultural pavilion. At the pavilion, special programs and local artists provide you with opportunities to learn and celebrate the traditions and natural beauty of The Bahamas.
9. Secret Cave
There is a small cave at the end of the family beach. If you are looking at the water, walk along the beach to your right until you get to a rocky outcrop. You will have to go around the outcrop to get to the cave. It is best to attempt this during low tide and when the waves are not strong. Be very careful if you do decide to visit the cave because there are no lifeguards on this end of the beach.
