Everything you need to know about the character breakfast at Makahiki - The Bounty of the Islands at Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa.

If you are staying at Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa or visiting the island of Oahu in Hawaii, you may be interested in booking a character breakfast at Makahiki – The Bounty of the Islands. Did you know that you do not have to stay at Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa to make a reservation for the Character Breakfast? You can visit as a day guest.

Makahiki – The Bounty of the Islands is a great way to meet multiple Disney characters and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast before starting your day. Characters are only available at breakfast.

There is live entertainment during breakfast from either Aunty or Uncle. During our breakfast, Aunty played a ‘ukulele and sang.

How to Make Reservations

When can reservations be made? Thirty days out from your check-in date at Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa – if you are staying onsite or thirty days from the date you want to visit. Reservations open up at midnight Hawaii time.

To book a reservation, go onto the Aulani website, click on dining, and then click on the button to make a reservation. Be sure to screenshot your confirmation number because I never received an email confirmation.

Characters

On our trip, upon check-in at the hostess stand we were sent out to visit Mickey Mouse on the patio. He was dressed in a Hawaiian outfit. There was no line, we walked right up to him, the handlers offered to take photos, and there was also a photopass photographer (this was the only photographer at the breakfast). We were allowed to spend as much time as we wanted with Mickey Mouse and could take any combination of photos we wanted.

Next, we were directed to wait for our table. When our name was called, we got into a short line to meet Goofy. He was dressed as a chef. Again the handler was more than happy to take photos for us.

We were seated at our table and during our meal Pluto visited our table a couple of times – he didn’t have a handler with him, but he was lots of fun.

The last character we saw was Max, Goofy’s son. He was dressed as a cook or waiter. We had a long “conversation” with him and his handler was very kind and offered to take our photo with Max.

Please note that the characters and outfits may change, depending on availability and at the discretion of Disney.

Food – Breakfast

The food was delicious and there was so much – we were so full! The meal is a 3-course breakfast with your choice of entree. We started with malasdas for everyone which are Portuguese sugar donuts. Next course was topical parfaits which were delicious.

You get to choose your own entrees from a choice of omelets, sweet bread french toast, pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, and more. All of our entrees were amazing and I would happily go back for more any day.

Our waitress was super sweet, but I think she was having an off day. She forgot our coffee and it took longer for our entrees to get to us than people who were seated after us.

Tips

  • Book as soon as reservations open up because reservations go fast for the Character breakfast.
  • Make sure to get your parking validated if you are a day guest. You can ask your waitress to validate at the end of your breakfast.
  • Spend extra time before or after your reservation exploring the resort. While you can not partake in the activities or use the pools, you can access the beach (all beaches are public in Hawaii), shop in the stores, and grab a bite from any of the quick service areas.

Conclusion

To us it was worth the cost to get to experience a little bit of Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa. The characters were engaging, the handlers took plenty of photos of our family with the characters, and the food was plentiful and delicious. I highly recommend having breakfast at Makahiki – The Bounty of the Islands at least once if you are able to.
